You do not! Although we love to see our customers, it is not necessary for you to be physically present on the day of service. Depending on your property and household, you may need to take a few quick prep steps (see the next question), and our technician will happily carry out your service, even if no one’s home.  After your service is complete, we’ll send out a service summary to let you know any important details about the service we performed.

What Should I Do To Prepare My Lawn Before a Weed Man Visit?

It’s very simple, and very little prep needs to be done. If you have a gate, be sure that it’s unlocked and accessible for our technicians to get through. If you have any pets, we kindly ask that you keep them inside for the day of service so that our techs are able to perform the service without interruption and in a timely manner.

What Happens If It Rains on My Scheduled Service Day?

This all depends on the volume and severity of the rain. If very heavy rain is forecasted on your scheduled service day, your service may be postponed to ensure the efficacy of the application. After your service has been performed, rain will not normally affect weed control applications, unless it rains very heavily immediately after the application. If your service needs to be rescheduled, or if you need a reapplication in between scheduled services, we’ll work with you to reschedule the service to a time when weather conditions improve.

How Often Will Weed Man Visit My Property?

Yard greatness doesn’t happen alone, or after just one visit. The frequency of your visits will depend on the services in your package. For example, you may only need lawn aeration once or twice a year, whereas you may receive fertilization once a month. If you have an advanced weed infestation, you may need more frequent visits and follow-ups to ensure the problem has been properly eradicated.

Should I Water My Lawn After Fertilizing?

Accepted Answer

We recommend you water your lawn within 48 hours after a  fertilizer application , if it doesn't rain during that time. This will activate the fertilizer so it can begin to feed your lawn. However, if your treatment also includes a weed control product, you should wait for the product to dry before watering. This usually takes a few hours. Be sure to ask your technician about Weed Man’s fertilization program, its follow-up steps, or maintenance.

Do I Need To Water My Lawn After Aeration?

If your aeration was performed in  combination with overseeding  (another service available at most Weed Man locations), make sure you water your lawn deeply right after your service. For the next 10-14 days, water daily for 15 to 20 minutes in order to keep the seed moist, especially if there is no supplemental water from natural rainfall. A strict watering regimen is crucial for ensuring the success of the new seed.

How Often Should I Mow My Lawn?

Mow your lawn as often as you need to in order to maintain the proper height. Your lawn may require mowing more than once a week during peak growth periods in the spring and fall, and only once every two weeks during the hot summer months. But the amount of rain you get will have a direct impact on that. The ideal mowing height for most lawns is 3” - 3.5”. The easiest thing to do is to make sure your mower is set 1-2 settings above the "middle" setting.

How Frequently Should I Sharpen My Mower Blade?

To maintain a sharp blade, you may need to sharpen it up to 3 times annually. A sharp blade makes a clean, precise cut for each grass blade. A dull mower blade, on the other hand, chews and frays the lawn.

How Do I Get Rid of Dandelions?

Dandelions are best treated with a broadleaf herbicide applied by your local Weed Man technician. The best time to attack them is during the "puffball" stage, after the plant has flowered. Fall is also an effective time to apply broadleaf  weed control , as this is typically when dandelions transfer nutrients from their leaves to their roots for winter. And as we like to say, a thick and healthy lawn will always be your best defense against weeds of all kinds. This means keeping up with your regular: Mowing Watering Fertilization Aeration Also, cutting your lawn at a higher level will help choke dandelions out.

How Much Water Does My Lawn Need? When Should I Water?

Proper watering is key to keeping your lawn lush, healthy, and resistant to weeds and pests. On average, lawns need 1” - 2” of water per week to develop strong, deep roots. Each watering should soak the soil to a depth of 3” - 4”, creating a moisture reserve to sustain your grass between waterings. Keep in mind that the exact amount may vary depending on: Your grass type Soil conditions (sandy soils dry out faster than clay) Recent weather patterns Your geographic location For best results: Water deeply and infrequently rather than daily light sprinklings. Water early in the morning (5-9 am) when temperatures are cooler and evaporation is minimal. Avoid evening watering, which can encourage disease. How Often Should I Fertilize My Lawn?

This depends on the quality of the fertilizer product you’re using and how you apply it. On average, Weed Man lawns should be fertilized four to six times per year using our slow-release granular fertilizer. Our technicians schedule timed applications throughout the growing season to ensure consistent results without overfeeding. On the other hand, many frustrated homeowners come to us after trying different over-the-counter fertilizer products that they have tried spreading themselves. More often than not, their DIY efforts have left them with: Inconsistent color or “burns” Patchy growth Questions about what they’re doing wrong It’s not always the homeowner’s fault.
